Around Town

Ward 1 Orléans - Your Candidate For Ottawa City Council

In addition to English and French, you can read my platform in Chinese and Arabic.

I have lived in Orléans for the better part of the last 25 years. I currently work as an independent community advocate as well as a volunteer coordinator and caregiver at Keshet Kennels Dog Rescue. I'm a proud Orléans Lion and I'm also a board member for the Sir Wilfrid Laurier High School council and The Queenswood Heights Community Association. I've been a successful business owner and I've been homeless. This gives me the skills to connect with a wide spectrum of people, bring us together and put forth viable solutions. I've spent my entire life working closely with the community as a coach, a social worker and a business owner. There is nothing I want more than all community members to have a sense of belonging. I'm not sure who came up with the term minority because if we all get together we are the majority!

Let's get together and feel all right. One love.

Platform:

Affordable Housing

Housing is a Human Right! Ottawa needs affordable housing and affordable rent immediately. I believe 30% of all new developments should include affordable housing and affordable rent. I will ensure that inclusionary zoning and landlord licensing become realities for our City.

Senior Care

Seniors are the Kings and Queens of Ottawa, after all they built this City. I would like to create and implement a volunteer driven program that will keep seniors in their homes longer.

Educate our youths on the Risks of Cannabis Use

There are too many recreational users and cannabis has legitimate medicinal benefits, we must support it. However we must go out of our way to educate our children. I would like the City to charge an annual fee to all dispensaries that would go directly to educating our youths on the risks involved with cannabis use.

Dedicate a section of Orléans to Francophone Enterprises and Culture

We need to preserve our history and it's important for me to make certain that the French Language will always be heard. Orléans is in desperate need of a French language school for adults looking to learn the language.

Other Priorities:

  • Prevent the development of 3030 St. Joseph Boulevard
  • Affordable childcare
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Encourage the use of emotional support animals
  • End predatory lending
  • All new developments must include solar power infrastructure
  • City properties to include solar power infrastructure
  • More social drop-in centres
  • Clean the Ottawa River
  • On-line voting and encourage voting
  • End the bed bug epidemic
  • Audit the waste management program
  • Grants to support local artists, entertainers and athletes
  • Fight to end stigma
  • Encourage volunteering
  • Smart growth
  • Geared to income rental properties
